ADMISSION TO POST-GRADUATE, UNDERGRADUATE, HIGHER DIPLOMA AND PROFESSIONAL/UPGRADING PROGRAMMES FOR 2013/2014 ACADEMIC YEAR.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following programmes for the 2013/2014 Academic Year commencing in August 2013.

 

A.         MASTER OF ARTS (M.A.) PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION

(The M.A Ports and Shipping Administration is run in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies, University of Ghana)

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

A First Degree (Minimum of 2nd Lower Division) in any of the following:

  • Social Sciences
  • Business Administration
  • Maritime Discipline
  • Other related Disciplines from a recognized University.

Plus not less than two (2) years post-qualification working experience in Logistics or Maritime related organization.

                                                                or

  • The highest grade Certificate of Competency for unrestricted service as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy.

 

NOTE:   Short listed candidates for the M. A. Programmes will undergo a selection interview. 

 

B.         UNDERGRADUATE 4-YEAR B.Sc. DEGREE PROGRAMMES

 i)              B.Sc. MARINE ENGINEERING

ii)             B. Sc. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING [REGULAR/WEEK-ENDS]

iii)            B. Sc. NAUTICAL SCIENCE

iv)            B. Sc. COMPUTER ENGINEERING 

v)             B. Sc. PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION

vi)            B. Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT  

 

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

B.Sc. MARINE ENGINEERING/ B.Sc. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING/ B.Sc. NAUTICAL SCIENCE/ B.Sc. COMPUTER ENGINEERING

  • WASSCE/SSSCE holders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits (A1-C6) in Three Elective Subjects which must include Physics and Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score of 24  on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better.

                                                                             or

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Credit in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least two Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects one of which must be Mathematics.

                                                                            or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of Passable, IGCSE with a minimum of Grade C, American Grades 12 and 13, FTC, City & Guilds Technician Part 3 and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc. in relevant subjects which are equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE or the GCE will be considered.

  • HND Holders:     HND holders in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering [Plant Option], Computer Science with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institution in addition to the minimum entry requirement at WASSCE/SSCE or 5 O’Level Credits including Mathematics and English Language.                                                          

                                                                                    or

  • Mature Candidates:  Mature applicants must:

   i.     be 25 years of age or above at the time of the submission of the     application form.

          ii.     have at least five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or five (5) G.C.E. ‘O’ Level passes  including    

                  English  Language and Mathematics. An Elective Mathematics background will be an added

           advantage.

          iii     applicant must pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examination in  [English Language,  

          Mathematics   and an Aptitude Test].

 

NOTE:   Candidates for Nautical Science and Marine Engineering must equally meet the conditions for Cadetship training programme.

 

B.Sc. PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION & B.Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT

  • WASSCE/SSSCE holders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies plus credits (A1-C6) in Three relevant Elective Subjects with an aggregate score of 24  on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better. 

                                                                                         or

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) holders: Credit in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects (including English Language and Mathematics plus at least three passes including General paper at Advanced Level.

                                                                                         or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum of Passable, IGCSE with a minimum of grade C, American Grades 12 and 13 etc. which are equivalent to SSSCE or GCE will be considered.
                                                                                         or
  • Mature Candidates:  Mature applicants must:

          i.    be 25 years of age or above at the time of the submission of the application form.

          ii.   have at least five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or five (5) G.C.E. ‘O’ Level passes including   English 

                Language and Mathematics plus working experience in relevant areas of study.

         iii.  applicant  must  pass  Mature  Students’  Entrance  Examination  in   [English  Language,   

               Mathematics and an Aptitude Test].

 

PLEASE NOTE (B.Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT)

  • The above programme is jointly run by the Regional Maritime University (RMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) China. The First, Second and Fourth years will be run at the Regional Maritime University, Ghana while the third year will be in Shanghai Maritime University, China. 
  •   Applicants must not be more than 30 years at the commencement of the programme (August, 2013).

        Interested candidates must have the financial capability to pay for a return ticket to China and

       also their upkeep whilst in China.

 

ENTRY TO LEVEL 200 FOR ALL B.Sc. PROGRAMMES

Regional Maritime University (RMU) Higher Diploma, Relevant Higher National Diploma and holders of qualifications in courses of approved content that have been taken in recognised institutions. These qualifications will be assessed on individual basis to determine point of entry into the programmes. Applicants are required to have at least two years post qualification experience.

 

C.      2 YEAR HIGHER DIPLOMA IN PORTS AND SHIPPING MANAGEMENT

  •  SSSCE/WASSCE: Credit in five (5) subjects including Core English Language and Mathematics.

                                                                                       or

  • G.C.E. ‘O’ Level Credit in five [5] subjects (including Mathematics & English Language), plus G.C.E. ‘A’ Level passes in any two (2) subjects.

                                                                                     or

  • Mature Candidates:  Mature applicants must:

          i.    be 25 years of age or above at the time of the submission of the application form.

          ii.   have at least five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or five (5) G.C.E. ‘O’ Level passes including English

                Language    and Mathematics plus working experience in relevant areas of study.

         iii.   applicant must pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examination in  [English Language, Mathematics

               and an Aptitude Test].

 

 NOTE:   i.  All candidates must satisfy specific Departmental requirements in addition to the general

                    requirements.
